Al Habtoor Motors the official dealer for Mitsubishi in the UAE celebrates the 30th Anniversary of Pajero at Habtoor Grand Beach Resort & Spa on Sunday 25th March 2012 with another legend.
Romário – Brazilian & Barcelona football legend and one of the most prolific strikers in the world joins the Pajero 30th Anniversary Celebrations. Romario was instrumental in helping Brazil win the 1994 FIFA World Cup, was selected ‘FIFA World Player of the Year’, and also won the ‘World Cup Golden Ball’ in 1994. Named as one of the ‘Top Greatest Living Footballers’ as part of FIFA’s 100th anniversary celebrations and admired by many of the sports greatest players as a “ genius”.
To commemorate the special occasion, Al Habtoor Motors will be releasing two hundred Limited Edition Pajeros during April 2012. Customers who buy the Limited Edition will also get a special 30th Anniversary Card and Romario’s picture exclusively autographed by him.
Speaking during the celebrations, Karl Hamer, Managing Director of Al Habtoor Motors said “For us at Al Habtoor Motors, it’s a double delight. We are happy to welcome two legendary performers – Romario, one of the greatest football stars of our time and Mitsubishi Pajero, one of the greatest off-road vehicles of our time as well as the UAE’s best selling vehicle that has been always a family favorite. During this wonderful occasion, we are pleased to offer our customers the Limited Edition Pajero which will have a special place in the hearts of the motoring public here in the UAE.”
“I am happy to be a part of the 30th Anniversary Celebrations of Pajero, a vehicle that’s not only popular in this part of the world but also on the other side of the globe. It’s such a phenomenal success and I wish all the Pajero owners many years of happy adventures,” said Romário, the guest of honor during the celebrations.
The first Pajero prototype was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in November 1973. The Pajero II prototype followed in 1978, five years later. Mitsubishi’s aim was to create more of a recreational vehicle, not just an SUV. The first Pajero was launched in May 1982. Initially it was a three-door, short-wheelbase model available with metal or canvas top and three different engine options. In January 1983, the first Pajero made its debut at the Paris Dakar Rally, taking first place in 1985. To date, the Pajero is the most successful vehicle in the Dakar Rally (winning its class 7 out of the last 10 races, and 15 of the full 32 races)
